Movie Reviews

This movie was very good!! There is a graveyard scene and I cried on and off from that time on.
Of course it's predictable, but it's a "Jamie Movie" I liked it.

I liked the relationship Vanessa Redgrave's character, Claire, had with the main character, Sophie.
Together they go on a journey to find a lost love, named Lorenzo, from when Claire was 15 years old.
The Lorenzo that ends up being "the one" is actually Vanessa Redgrave's husband in real life!!
Now isn't that cool?
Can you tell I like to watch the "extras"?
It is PG, but, Sophie, the main character goes on a "pre honeymoon" trip with her boyfriend, and well, I am just not going to explain that one to my littles, even if they are 8 now.
Even if they hardly show them together.
(I kind of pick movies apart like that) SO, I would not let my kids watch it, I consider this an adult movie.

Now, this movie, is PG-13 but it is so because of "sword fighting" and I would let my 10 year old watch this one!
No sex in this one, no swearing, just sword fights.
OH, and snakes. A weird snake man.
I was not looking forward to watching this movie, but did for my husband....
I was pleasantly surprised and would actually buy this one...if it were not Disney.
(we don't buy Disney products due to their excessive giving to Planned Parenthood)

Anyway, very good movie to rent!
I give both these movies thumbs up!

  1. My boys want to see Prince of Persia. Considering all the fighting they do, seeing sword fights on screen won't have a big influence. Thanks for sharing about the movie.

Also, I've tagged you for a fun meme on my blog. Here's the post with details: http://daybydayinourworld.blogspot.com/2010/10/tag-im-it-meme-part-3.html

  2. We saw this movie also with the older boys.

I also liked the "NO SEX"!!! A blessing to watch a show with my boys and not have to fast forward.

BTW-did you feel my presence last weekend? I thought of you often while we were in the cities!

  5. You give good movie recommendations, many I've watched. Price of Persia is an incredible movie. My family all liked it, as did I. I think it's appropriate for ages 6 and up with parents around. We're big on Disney movies because they are such quality, family friendly movies - 9 out of 10.

Regarding boycotting them, I would never boycott Disney, because I approve of so much of their company. I've also enjoyed many trips to Disney World.

In 2006 Disney World did contribute to the Orlando Planned Parenthood but it seems that was an isolated case. There is no evidence online that they do this nationally or since then. Do you have evidence otherwise?

If you boycott them, do you also boycott: Adobe, Nike, Time Warner, Bank of America, Johnson & Johnson, Wells Fargo, Tiffany & Company, Circuit City, Whole Foods Market, and Nationwide insurance? American Automobile Association (AAA), Dr. Phil Foundation, Lions Clubs, American Cancer Society, Easter Seals (Goodwill), Boys & Girls Clubs, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Camp Fire, Girls Inc., Girl Scouts, Kiwanis Clubs, March of Dimes, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Rotary Clubs, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, The Salvation Army, YWCA, America Gives Back (formerly [American] Idol Gives Back), YMCA, American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), American Diabetes Association? Darden Restaurants (Bahama Breeze, The Capital Grille, LongHorn Steakhouse, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Season 52), Ignite Restaurants (Brickhouse Tavern+Tap, Joe's Crab Shack), ING , Kohl's, Mrs. Fields (cookies), and The Gap?

Should my sister quit her job at the YMCA? My uncle with the Boys and Girls Club? Are any of these unworthy causes or "bad" companies?

They all financially support the abortion industry in some way or another. I buy quality products and go to quality stores. If the CEO decides to waste his profits on something I disagree on, that's his path not mine. I don't associate it as me supporting their ill choices.

    Something to think about...

  7. Dear Melissa-
    Yes, actually, we do.
I go to www.fightpp.org and order their boycott list. We've been doing it for at least 14 years now. I do have to admit we have to get an updated list, but they're kind of spendy, but I need to do that soon!

Nothing talks like Money!! I've seen products like General Mills, Target and Pepsi come off because of the list. Disney is a major contributor, not to mention the gay rights issues they constantly stand up for.

Yes, they do have good things, but does the good justify the evil?

I have a very strong conscience and my conscience won't let me spend money where I know a portion of it will help someone kill their baby.
Whether it's the free pills they give away to teens, or anything.

This post is not about boycotting, just mentioned what WE do. I really feel whatever makes people passionate about, they should do. Pro-life issues are our passion.

We try our best to boycott the companies we know. I didn't know Kohl's was on the list, however I do not shop there. All we can do is our best. I just offer it up, if it's inconvenient and I need to find my products elsewhere.

Please don't take it personally, it's your choice where you spend your money, I'm not judging anyone who does not do the boycott, it's a hard thing to do and takes a little extra time, and I understand the "where does it end?" part.

We just boycott the first step. The first company that gives. For example, we still shop at the stores that carry Johnson & Johnson, but choose not to purchase J&J's products.

For us, personally, it's just something small.

"You know well enough that our Lord does not look at the greatness of our actions, nor even at their difficulty, but at the love at which we do them." St Therese of Lisieux

  8. OH, I did let my 8 year old watch The Prince of Persia with her big brother last night, but she did not understand a lot. I would NOT let my 6 year old watch it, there is a lot of scarey stuff towards the end of the movie. I just don't want to taint their innocence.

This is just us, maybe others disagree, that's ok.

  9. Jamie,
May I thank Melissa via your blog?
I hadn't realized that Olive Garden or Red Lobster should've been on my list of places to avoid... (however, I doubt my twice a year 'splurge' dinners will affect their company, but it is my small stance in the big scheme of things.) We DO avoid every single company Melissa has on her list.

Jamie, we boycott everything Disney, because of the Planned Parenthood support -- but equally because of their extreme support of gay rights issues.
Oh, my children will never experience Disney World... but, really, I don't think it'll matter to them whether we ever go there or not. (My oldest three are out of our house and on their own and never lament the trip to Disney that was never taken.)

I want to tell you that I really appreciate the movie reviews you do. I've watched a few of your suggested movies, and I am glad for your recommendations! Thanks for screening them for me Jamie!
    Blessings to you!

  10. Thanks Jamie - I trust your movie reviews too. You've led me to good ones.

On the side topic, my family also tries to make our small contribution in defending the unborn and the sanctity of marriage. It's our way of being a voice, albeit a small one, especially for those without a voice. Sometimes, the boycott isn't convenient...but really is it so hard to switch orange juices or drive to Lowe's rather than Home Depot? A little inconvenience could be seen as good ole Catholic mortification of our wills. We want it easy, we want our pleasures.

Sacrifice and mortification are lacking and I need to do more in those areas....every saint prescribes it.

We try to keep up with what to boycott. A solid priest once told me that if you have no other choice only then are you not complicit in the evil! If you can go elsewhere, it seems to me, then you have another choice and don't have to give it a second thought.

I think it is AFA that send us emails on who to boycott and why. AFA also emails when the boycott has effected a turn around and change.

The whole gay days and push of that lifestyle from Disney and Home Depot really turn us off, my husband especially. But again, we have other choices...

Fight the good fight, the good book says....

You know what was a dumb movie? Killers with Catherine Heigl and Ashton Kutchner....yawn....
