Another Update!

Please pray that Simeon starts drinking fluids.  He drank, by spoon, about 1 3/4 oz orange juice and maybe a couple spoons of forced breastmilk.  That's it.  He ate 2 yogurts today.  They still have him on an IV so he's getting fluids that way, but not liking to drink anything.  The only way I can get him to drink is by spoon.  He was happier and much more alert today and we went for a couple of walks down the hall to see the fish and read books in the family lounge.  We cannot go home til he starts drinking fluids.  He smiled for his surgeon today and was happy when I played the video (many times) we made of the kids for the December surgery. His face is quite swollen and it seems hard to smile.  He is quite spunky, constantly throwing his toys out of the crib and Houdini-ing out of the arm braces constantly!  He also keeps "hitting" us in the face--because we say "No-No!" then, he gets this glimmer in his eye, like "haha what are you going to do about it?"  Little stinker.

Please pray for his appetite and fluids--we want to go home, but want him to be ready to come home.

There were at least 8 babies born today and 6 yesterday.  (They are very busy)
Every time a baby is born, they play lullabye music on the speakers, kind of fun!

I thank God for a successful surgery and for wonderful people in the world, like you, such prayer warriers!

  2. Continuing to pray. Leo kept hitting me in the face with the arm braces too! Did you try the little Soft Sipp cup? It's like a squeeze bottle with a tiny flexible straw? That's what Leo used the first day.

  8. What a silly little man. I pray that he will start drinking soon. Maybe it's too uncomfortable for him to drink? Poor baby, I will say an extra 10 Hail Mary's for him as soon ad I post this. (Up late with sick babies myself.) God bless and hoping for you all to come home soon.

  9. Thank you all so very much! It's 3am....he's not sleeping much...offering rosaries to the Poor Souls to help him drink!

Beth--he's not allowed straws...so I'm not sure what kind of cup you are talking about...we've tried his Avent sippy cup, a cup without a lid at all and the spoon way...He just pushes it all away. BUT for some reason, he loves yogurt and the way it feels I guess.

Thank you again for your prayers...I'm going to try to get some sleep...

  15. Still praying for your little one. Lullaby music when a baby is born...how sweet. Good news about the new pope! Pope Francis seems to be a wonderful man of God!

  16. I got my wisdom teeth out this week and as I was reading this I thought- "Of course that baby doesn't want to drink." If it hurts me to swallow over my swollen gums (and it does) I can not imagine how intense is his pain swallowing around his whole swollen, sutured mouth. I am offering up a little of my (very minor) discomfort for Simeon. Hoping it helps him some....

  24. We always have Good Friday before Easter. Give him another day and he will be back to his old self. Sounds like he knows what he is up to, smart little guy. I think that is so cool that the hospital notes the births with music. That is a great little reminder to say a prayer for that precious soul and his/her family. Praying for you!

  25. We prayed for you both at mom's group. I mentioned especially about the eating after surgery because that was problematic before. I should have mentioned the drinking. Dumb me. I will just have to pray more. God bless, we're thinking about you all and praying of course.
