Update on Simeon

Here's some cute toesies for you, and YES,
of course, I will kiss them for you!

He's doing OK, he had a fussy, fussy week.
He's finally drinking out of his normal cups,
as of tonite.

The first hardest part right now,
is the arm bands
(we have blue shark ones too, from the last surgery)
They restrict him from putting anything into his mouth,
like, oh, toys, crumbs, his fingers!
He's uncomfortable sleeping in them and
is so happy when I take them off for a short time
but, he's quick, last week, he immediately put his finger in his nose,
and blood gushed out (not good)
I hope it healed OK
We'll find out Friday (Good Friday)
at his Post Op check up

The second hardest part is the food.
He will be eating baby food type food for another 4 1/2 weeks.
He doesn't like baby food anymore.

(he eats a lot of  yogurt and pureed baked beans
 (I know, yum, huh?)

He wants crackers and cereal and, whole fruit pieces, veggies and bread
you know, real food!

Thank you again for all your prayers!!

(not sure if I'll be back this week or not)
SO

Have a Blessed Holy Week!

  5. Oh wow! His surgical looks great! I thought there would still be some bruising. Is it still sore when he eats? Do you mind if I ask? Can I ask more? After all of the surgeries, will Simeon have any numbness after all is finished? I'm sorry if my questions are stupid. Im just curious and I mean well. My kids asked last night and usually I just say I don't know because I don't want to be the asker of any more dumb questions that you write about, but they really do love him and love seeing pictures of him. My surgical spot is numb so that is why they want to know.
I can't even imagine those little armbands. (He is listening, you know......I mean the title of your blog is working....you are a saint!) and the food thing and everything in a baby's mouth! Oosh! Poor little guy!

    1. Dear Lisa, I don't mind at all. It's not seeming as sore now, but it needs to heal for 6 weeks after surgery without food or toys or fingers hurting or undoing the work of the surgeons. He can't use straws or sippy cups with the spill proof thingy, your palate is actually an involuntary muscle and it moves when you talk and eat, so we need to be careful so he heals the way he should.

My surgical spots are numb too (c-sections)and broken leg, I don't know that answer, the doctors don't answer that one directly, because they don't really know. His top lip though has been operated on twice and there will be many more, so I'm assuming that it will be numb, or since he's a baby, those nerves will continue to grow and develop and by adulthood, maybe he will be able to feel that top lip....he can feel it, like he knows it hurts, etc....not sure how much he will feel though.

Oh, and I'm so far from sainthood, that I have to beg God for it.

      Thanks Lisa!

  8. Do you think he would be agreeable to "homemade" baby food (if that's even allowed)? Its mushy but tastes, ya know, like real food, lol. Sweet little guy! He looks like such a trooper. Our cousin has a son who had a cleft lip and palate (in addition to being deaf). He is 4 now, and while he still has some surgeries ahead, he is happy and healthy and loved! And we are all so lucky to know his sweet little soul. I'm sure you all feel the same way about little Simeon. And his hair and eyes! They are just shockingly beautiful. I love it!

    1. Thanks so much Kelli--made me smile outloud with the hair and eye comment! And yes, he is loved! He's the baby of 6 kids--are you kidding? Hahah!

I've tried pureeing potatoe soup, he ate it one day but not any more after that, carrots (they were yummy) but same thing, ate and loved it the first time but no other times after that. Just like his daddy I guess, no leftovers! haha! He loves oatmeal in the morning, milked down quite a bit! He's also been eating avocado every night at supper. (a whole one mashed up!)

Your nephew...Oh, I feel for his parents (and all of you and him of course) how hard that must have been as a baby, those surgeries, so scared and confused he must have been. My sister is deaf (she's 34 though.) His next surgery will be much better I'm sure.

That's what we hope, that Simeon's next surgery will be much better, he'll be older and hopefully understand better.
