Awesome Homeschooling Video!

I am seriously thinking of enrolling my oldest two this year. We have always used a little of Catholic Heritage Curriculum and Seton. (the "I watched this video 7 times a day was not me) Any High School Seton users out there? What are your opinions?

  1. Hey Jamie! How are you?
You know I just woke up from my afternoon nap, and I realized I dreamed about you guys... I was there with your family and I was roaming around with Rosie! Oh God is this spooky? I have never had a dream of any blogger buddy :D What does this mean?

    Much love..

  2. We started using Seton three years ago, after having used a bunch of other things (CHC, Mother of Divine Grace). My kids love Seton. It's hard, and a lot is expected out of them, but my oldest will be in 8th grade next year, and she has specifically asked that I not change from Seton (she had a chance to attend a hybrid school for middle school/high schoolers, and she turned it down because it wouldn't be Seton material). No curriculum is perfect...I loathe their History program, but I found a History class taught by someone else as a supplement. Same with Science, but they let you use Apologia, which my kids like a lot. It holds EVERYONE accountable, and it builds good study skills. I know some people like home schooling to have a more "gentle" feel and approach, but for us, my kids needed something different. And I've never regretted our decision.

    1. SO Jen, do you like Apologia for the high school years? We did it last year, for Human Anatomy, my 2 oldest did it together (I thought it would help them get along better--ha!!) (didn't work)

Oh, oops, I see you don't have any high schoolers...I'm curious about their high school Science)
We did enroll the year Simeon was born...haha, that was a big mistake, basically, we just did the work and did not turn anything in at all.

      Thanks Jen, love your input!

  4. I have seven kids-oldest going into 10th, youngest at 9 months. We've signed up for Seton's individual classes. Basically, I pick and choose which classes I want. I highly recommend that option before diving in because it's A LOT. My son last year, for English alone, took 7 tests on grammar/punctuation, several literature quizzes, 6 literature tests, 2 compositions, 3 book analysis (each one consists of two separate papers), an essay, plus a research paper including thesis, 40 notecards, outline and bibliography. Lots of work. Solid. Excellent. But I don't want to kill myself signing up for everything, or kill school for them completely. The people I know who have larger families and signed up with Seton routinely do school through the summer. I do purchase individual books as well (English/Handwriting in younger years.) My friends that do Seton completely ONLY do the work that is required to turn in (everything I listed earlier) plus anything that requires a grade from the parent, there is more in their lesson plans.

    1. SO you said, "Solid. Excellent." so that must mean you like it, right? What you described is what we are looking for. We did enroll the year my youngest was born...with all the pumping and surgeries he had, I just did not turn anything in, we just did the work. I have to say, my oldest did not like it. (but he did the work) We did it in a school year, but come to think of it, it was only what was required, no extras...

    2. Yes, I'm glad we did it, and I'm doing it again. There is a big difference between turning things in and not, though. It would have been more 'doable' to not turn things in (there's a lot of work involved in helping kids study for the tests, rewriting papers, etc.) I know if I wasn't turning things in, I wouldn't expect so much...sad to say. You may be better at that than me. Since you've done it before, the work load won't be a surprise. Sounds like it would be a good fit for you, then. God bless!

  5. Jamie Jo - I lived in Front Royal (Seton Headquarters) for 12 years. The people at Seton genuinely care about their students and work HARD to help each family who enrolls. Our first year back to homeschooling we used CHC due to finances and then saved so that we could afford to enroll with Seton. I used it before until my oldest was in 9th grade and each child entered school with out any hiccups. Seton is wonderful!
