Rosary Give-Away!

I decided a few months ago that I wanted to do a give-away in May,
 to promote the rosary,
one of my favorite prayers.
May, being the month of Our Lady and all.
Well, May is long gone and life just took over.
SO June it is!

My good friend Barbara donated one of her beautiful rosaries
for my give-away!

Here is the description of the above rosary:

This sweet rosary is made with 6mm opal glass Ave beads and 8mm millefiori glass Pater beads in green, white, and red, capped with pretty silver flowers. The flowers on the Pater beads look like star-shaped flowers. The beads are linked with base metal eyepins and chain. The crucifix is a pretty flowered style in nickel, and the center is a Miraculous Medal with the mysteries of the rosary etched on plates attached to the back of the medal. The plates fan out from the medal to read the mysteries.

Her rosaries are beautiful and strong,
the beads feel so nice in your fingers as they glide along while you pray

A few years ago, I won one of her beautiful rosaries
but someone needed a rosary and I ended up giving it away!
(because it was one of my favorites)
(yes, I have a few favorites, but only a few)

I loved her rosary so much,
I wanted you to have a chance to win one too.
You can also buy one if you don't win!

I'm going to entice you with a little chocolate too
Since there are so many opinions on dark or milk chocolate,
I'm giving away both!

I'll even throw in a CD
If you don't know how to pray the rosary,
because it's been a long time or you've never been introduced to it
More CD's HERE

 hopefully, this will help!

I grew up praying the rosary during Lent.
My dad would try to get us to kneel down around the table, next to the chairs
but we ended up only praying it a few times.

My dad always led when we did pray.

When I got older, I always carried my rosary in my purse.
It was a plastic pink and blue one.
Funny thing, even through my hard times, when
I was not so faithful, I still carried that rosary.
(and my scapular too)

When I went through my conversion (to a stronger Catholic faith)
I wanted to pray the rosary on my own
I listened to several different rosaries and taught myself.

My favorite?

This is Dana and Father Scanlon
(this is only the Joyful Mysteries)
You can purchase it

It's so very beautiful!

One thing I love about the rosary is
that it is all about the life of Jesus.
It is Mary by His side through it all.
As my fingers go across the beads,
and I pray the memorized prayers, my mind can
picture and meditate on the life of Christ.
And for whoever I am praying for.

We are to be like Christ, right?
Christ loved His Mother.

The rosary is one of the few things Mary specifically told us to do

 The saints loved the rosary
The rosary brings our family together,
it calms our nerves our anxieties
It somehow brings peace to our family

I must add that wearing the scapular is also one of the very few things Mary
has specifically asked us to do.
(and they are very special)

I'm curious as to why more people don't wear them
and why more Catholics don't even know what it is?
Is it a pain to wear the scapular?
Yes.
It can be itchy and not real flattering coming out of my top all the time
I don't look cool like some people do that wear theirs
on the outside of their clothes
but it makes me think of Jesus and Mary
and it somehow grounds me.

And Mary told me to wear it.

 Mary said to St Dominic:
"One day through the Rosary and Scapular I will save the world."

That's powerful
So
WEAR YOUR SCAPULAR!
PRAY THE ROSARY!

I love seeing St Mother Teresa's hands holding her rosary, clutching it always.
(she's one of my very favorite saints)
 Beautiful.

My rosary.
This is the one I pray in the Adoration chapel.
It is adorned with special medals

My little brother Jordan gave it to me the day our Adoration chapel opened.
I was going through a very hard time (divorce and annulment)
He was only 9 at the time.
(I was 25)

He spent his own money and sent away for this just for me.
I can't even tell you how many of hundreds and hundreds of rosaries
I've prayed on these special beads
I can't tell you how many countless numbers of people I've prayed for.

But I can tell you
that if I were stranded on an island and could pick one thing
to have
 it would be this rosary.

It used to be silver.
It turned gold in our Eucharistic Adoration chapel,
at the time, I was going daily.
While on a pilgrimage to Medjugorje, Yugoslavia, the crucifix turned gold.
Right before my eyes.
While praying the rosary on the  mountain where our Blessed Mother
first appeared to those young visionaries.
After the rosary, it turned silver again...a gift for  me.

It is a gift.
It is a reminder for me to keep praying
to keep changing and growing closer to Christ.

(at least that is what I think)

(I pray my Clay Rosary for our family rosary)

I never feel I can do the Rosary justice.
It's a hard thing for me to write about
I love it so much.

I will draw a name next Friday, June 13th.
Please leave a comment if you'd like to enter
(and a way to contact you if you win!)

We will do it the old fashioned way,
one of my beautiful children will draw a name!

  1. Jaime, thank you for doing this giveaway! I share your devotion to the Blessed Mother and the rosary. I've always wanted to go to Medugorje ever since I heard about it when I was in my twenties. Praying the rosary has encouraged and helped me so much in my life. When I was single, I prayed the rosary (often in tears) to find a good Catholic husband. I met my husband Ed many years later on a Catholic Singles website. Also, I prayed the rosary when I was newly married and told I needed surgery to remove two cysts on my ovaries. After the surgery, I learned I had severe endometriosis (What? Periods aren't supposed to be painful?) and was probably infertile. Still, I prayed (often in tears) to be able to have children. The rosary has given me so much peace and comfort. Now, it's almost Ed and mine 7 year anniversary (June 16, 2007 - we were married on the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary! I wanted to be married on one of her feast days to thank her and Jesus for the gift of my husband!). We still don't have children (and yes, sometimes I get sad and discouraged) but there is a chance I might be able to foster adopt a child or two (Someone who does foster care approached me and told me "Maria, the babies need you!" and we're setting up a meeting with a worker to talk about it in a couple of weeks. Please pray!). Yes, I'd really LOVE to win your giveaway (and that rosary featured is breath taking! So pretty! Oh, and I love chocolate!), but probably someone else should win this. Maybe someone who is curious about the rosary and needs some encouragement to begin praying it? I am thinking of having a giveaway soon on my blog. I might give away the 54 rosary novena book and some other books that were such a comfort and encouragement to me when I was single for so many years. Thank you, sweet Jaime for having this giveaway! You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers! Much love to you and your family! Wish I could meet you someday! XO

  2. I do love Father Scanlon and Dana's rosary. It's on our Catholic radio every night. What is it about hearing the rosary with an Irish accent that makes it seem more holy? ;-) I also like one by Gretchen Harris (available on iTunes). She has a different priest for each mystery and it has some pretty background music, but is sort of a no-fuss rosary much like the Mary Foundation's rosary.

You are awesome for doing this. And obviously don't put me in the drawing :-)

  3. Hi Jamie,
Thank you so much for holding this drawing. Like you and the other wonderful ladies, I also have a strong love for the Blessed Mother.
The rosary is a wonderful prayer for Catholics, especially mothers. I do believe that Our Lady certainly understands and hold dear the hearts of all her children, especially mothers. She understands the joys and sorrows that walk hand-in-hand with mothering.
Anyway, please enter me in the drawing. Barbara does indeed make lovely rosaries.
    Here's contact info: gail4kidsire@burlingtontelecom.net.
    Thanks and God bless.
    With love and prayers,
    Gail

  4. Her rosaries are beautiful! I used to wear a metal scapular, but one of the kids pulled it and it broke. I've worn the brown fabric one off and on, but it makes me itch all the time. I should get back to wearing it and I'm sure the itching is part of the sacrifice. Thank you for the reminder.

  5. What a nice post and testimony about the Rosary. We're hoping to make praying the rosary a regular thing with our family now that most are old enough to follow along. Typically we've said it in the car on long road trips. I really like praying the chaplet of divine mercy on it. Blessings to you today.

  7. I don't know much about rosary, but it sure is a noble deed from your side to have such a give-away.
This was a beautiful post. I read it till the end. It's amazing how I get to learn new things about your culture and life here! :)

  9. Oh!!!! I DO love that rosary!!! Barbara does such beautiful work. Did I tell you, I one of her give aways earlier in the spring? A blue FC rosary...which I plan to give to my son on July 6 (the date of his FC.) It was the FIRST thing I ever won on anyone's blog. Would love to keep it going...Please add me to the drawing, love. Happy Friday!

  10. I love your passion for the rosary. I am ashamed to admit I use it primarily as my sleep aid. I would love to step it up a bit and this beautiful rosary would be great motivation. You're so thoughtful looking out for all our souls like this!

  11. I would love to win! I haven't prayed the rosary in about a week, I'm going to get back to it tonight. (And put back on that itchy scapular too!) I'm so glad I stopped by here today. :). Hollyparlier@Gmail.com

  13. Pretty Rosary!

Ok, I love that your brother did that for you when he was only 9. What a special, personal Rosary.

I admit to having a difficult time praying the Rosary. Handy guides/meditations make it easier to do and I've done it in groups enough to know that at least I'm doing it right. But habitual prayer is continuous work for me. It still feels too much like a conscious decision than an automatic one. Baby steps and time. :)

(On a total side note, I was watching Caillou with my youngest today and a girl in his class has type 1 but I think the information wasn't quite right even with the oversimplification. Season 5, episode 1 on netflix.)

  14. I've been listening/praying along with the rosary on my Relevant Radio app on my phone while I nurse the baby. Typically, the children and I all pray together in the morning before we start our school day. However, baby Benjamin has totally rocked our world and we currently have no schedule! :-) We'll get back into it eventually, for now, I know that Mother Mary is watching over our family and holding my hand. God bless you!

  15. This is so special and precious to win one of Barbara's rosaries. Thanks for hosting. The rosary has helped me in so many ways. My favorite memory was saying the rosary with the youth group that went to Denver to see SAINT Pope John Paul...we said it under the Colorado night sky and there were a zillion stars. I guess that might be my second, and my first would be when Brian and I said the rosary together before he asked me to be his wife....There is power in that prayer. I also love saying the chaplet. ****i hope i win*******

  16. Beautiful post. I have had a devotion to the Rosary. We say it every now and again. I have nothing against it, just have never loved it. You post is inspiring.

  17. Jamie, after I read this post (the first time), I went directly to my room and put on my scapular. I take it on and take it off and take it on and take it off...mostly leaving it off...because it is itchy and twangs out of my shirt all the time and I am vain and very fond of comfort.

All things considered, it is such a little sacrifice, and YET, such an important sign of our love.

So thank you for this spiritual kick in the pants, my friend. You have such a beautiful way of sharing your faith--beautiful and effective!

  18. I love your rosary campaign Jamie. We too say the same prayer you have on your sidebar "We bind our children..." after the rosary. And I did not know Sr. Lucia said the rosary and scapular went together.

  19. So beautiful (both your post and the rosary)! My wool allergy makes scapulars tricky, but I'm working on getting back in the habit of a daily rosary every day.

  20. Thank you for this beautiful giveaway. I definitely need to get back into the habit of the family rosary. Mary has been so good to me in bringing me to her Son. God bless you and your beautiful family.

  21. Thank you so much for writing and honoring Our Lady in this way. I love the rosary, but unless I'm praying it with my husband or someone else, I have great difficulty concentrating. I have ADD and it's a real struggle, but I know Our Lady knows my heart and that I love her and that I'm trying. I remember going to sleep as a little girl always holding and praying the rosary even as a young child. My little Ava Marie, we've always called "Mary's girl" and she LOVES the rosary. For Easter we got her the Rosary video for little children and she loves to pray and sing it. She'll sit for the whole thing even at 2.5. She gets ME to pray it! Clara loves it to and walks around with the rosaries I made them for Easter. She loves Mary and points to her first thing in the morning. I love to hear her try to say "Mary". Thank you again for the reminder of how beautiful and powerful this prayer is!

    1. Oh, and though we've always called Ava, "Mary's girl", our little Clara has always shown a great love too. What a blessing that Our Lady chose her to be born on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes!
