Ever since I saw part of the latest version of The Sound of Music
(the play version that was on TV with Carrie Underwood)
I've wanted to find this in DVD
I've been looking and online it was too expensive
Friday I found it at Wal-mart for only 10 bucks!
(we used to have it in VHS but no longer have a player)
We had some friends over and watched it Saturday
Oh, my goodness...classic classic classic.
I loved every single scene.
I teared up through several
The color was marvelous, with Blue Ray!
I kept saying, "This is my favorite song!"
"This is my favorite song!"
And my friend was doing the same.
Eidelweiss....
Look--you have it memorized, don't you?
When do you think they fell in love?
When do you think they knew they were in love?
Look at that dress!
The wedding was beautiful!
The movie did a perfect job of portraying the Catholic church
Then and now.
Christopher Plummer was so handsome!
He reminds me of my dad when I was born, my dad had that same hair
and skin tone...
Julie Andrews
There could not have been anyone more perfect for the role,
nor any of the other roles in this movie.
I saw this first in the theatre, I think it was my first movie as a kid
seeing in a theater...not sure though.
I do know that I watched it every year on TV growing up.
Then and now
I have to say this is my all time favorite, number one movie!
Anyone want to come watch it again with me?
We love The Sound of Music here. They were doing a classic film series and last year on Husband's birthday we went to see it on the Imax screen. It was Christopher's first movie (we're pretty proud of that fact) and it was amazing. I have seen it literally dozens of times and there were moments I saw differently just because they were so big, many small details I've missed over the years. We watch it probably once a month. Maybe more.
ReplyDeleteOh, my gosh, I bet it was wonderful on Imax...Christopher made it through? Wow!
DeleteI noticed things this time around with it being the first time on a larger TV and I think the Blue Ray might have been a clearer picture? Or maybe they have restored it so well...either way, I loved it even more and can't wait to watch again...I told my girls I wanted to watch again today and they just rolled their eyes...
Well he made it to intermission and since the theater took the intermission we were able to get him asleep for the second half. But he saw all the good stuff! I'll watch with you any time and I won't roll my eyes!
DeleteSounds wonderful!! Christopher and Simeon can play and we can sing along!!
DeleteI'll wait and see Amy's theme stuff first and make a party of it!
Yes, I love this movie, it's one I never get tired. You know that Maria Von Trapp (Louisa) just died don't you? I'm guessing this is the reason for your post.
ReplyDeleteEvery time I listen to "Edelwiess", it makes me want to pull out the guitar. It's the first song I taught myself when I first began to guitar.
It was just a coincidence that I posted this and she died, maybe I need to pray for her soul?
DeleteI will.
My reason for the post is finding the DVD so cheap and finally being able to watch after not having a VHS player for like forever...we had to get rid of all our VHS movies a couple years ago...
Such a good movie....
OH, I'd love to hear you play Edelweiss...I bet it's beautiful....
Edelweiss. My favorite song is Edelweiss, especially sung just before they leave....
ReplyDeleteOh, I know...I get goosebumps just thinking about it...
DeleteI haven't seen this movie for a while, but it is great family entertainment to be sure. I love her demure, modest wedding dress!
ReplyDeleteOh, I know, I wish people would follow and pick more modest wedding dresses...so beautiful.
DeleteI love, love, love this movie too - I have most of the songs on my phone and we listen to them all the time!
ReplyDeleteAwwwww, your phone...might need to try to do that too...I'd drive my kids crazy!!
DeleteI'll bring the popcorn!
ReplyDeleteLast night we took all the kids out to dinner -- even the big kids -- because we had to be at the student union on campus. Faith asked, "Mom did you see all of those girls in white dresses (sorority girls, I think)? And I burst into "My Favorite Things" starting with "girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes" and Faith said, "Mom, you're embarrassing me!" Too fun! Funny thing is the biggest boys, who would have been embarrassed five years, ago just laughed!
Yay!! Come on over!
DeleteThat is so funny about the boys not being embarrassed! They know their mama!!
I've been singing the songs like crazy!!
I absolutely love this movie! Always have and always will. The wedding scene...goosebumps! The "escape"...thrilling. I agree with Barbara and the song "My Favorite Things" :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I know...ever single scene is wonderful. I've been singing the songs like crazy....driving my kids crazy. I asked the girls if they'd want to watch it again today...(it's freezing outside!) and they rolled their eyes at me...
DeleteI'd love to watch it with you! It is one of those that I watch every year, too. To me, it is one of the best movies ever made.
ReplyDeleteCome on up!! You can experience our ton of snow!!
DeleteI agree, the best for sure.
This is one of our family all time favorites! It is one we watch a couple times a year. I was even thinking about doing a bit of a theme later this week for movie night in honor of the real Maria Von Trapp who passed away last week.
ReplyDeleteFunny story about this movie though... When I was a kid and it came on TV my parent always told me the movie ended right after the marriage ceremony and put me to bed! It wasn't until I was much older that I realized there was a lot more to the story!!
Oooh, I'd love to see your theme!! You have to post it on Facebook and your blog!!
DeleteThat is so funny about your parents...I could see doing that though, good time to send the kids to bed, it's such a long movie!!
really??!!! the REAL Maria Von Trapp passed away and nothing in the news? I will look that up. I read the book and it was amazing. So much Catholic faith in the story. I love the movie also. I sing "rain drop on roses" a lot. it is a classic!
ReplyDeleteChristine, it's actually "Louisa" that died...her real name was Maria...it was the last of the children, that Georg had with his first wife. He and Maria, his 2nd wife, I think had 4 more children... that was alive. She was in her 90's. (I think that is the one..you read the book!!)
DeleteI've been singing the songs, driving my kiddos nuts...I want to watch it again...come on over!!
Here Christine--http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/22/maria-von-trapp-dies_n_4839974.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular
DeleteI love this as well!!!
ReplyDeleteThat wedding pic...divine!
I love Julie Andrews in anything.
Have you seen The Princess Diaries?
She is amazing in that! The girls love it! : )
I have seen those movies, but you know, I was asking my girls if they ever saw them and ONLY my oldest daughter has!! Yay!! That means I get to watch The Princess Diaries with them!!
ReplyDeleteI agree, I loved her in those.
My husband and I watched the live performance as well and actually really liked it. She was very brave for playing a roll that no one could even come close to matching. She was great!
ReplyDeleteMaria, who died a few days ago, was the last of the kids to pass away. I couldn't help but feel a little sad, it was like the end of a childhood era. I know, I'm weird....lol.
One of my all time favorites, in fact when I lived in Europe in 1990 I went on the famous Sound of Music Tour in Austria. There was some serious fans on that bus, let me tell you ;-) Loved all the great pictures, so perfect!
ReplyDeleteI wish they would re-release The Sound Of Music in India!
