When you see this number, do you think of
Jackie Robinson?
I do now!
Loved, loved this movie!
I cried through the whole thing.
Seriously.
It's the true story of the first black professional baseball player,
Jackie Robinson!
I cried every time I heard the "N" word.
I know that the movie was much much tamer than real life
It's just so hard to imagine life back then,
the way people treated anyone with skin other than that of Caucasian
I just do not get it.
It hurts.
.
The real Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese
Such a monumental moment!
Such impact on fans--one good thing can accomplish so much.
Harrison Ford played Branch Rickey, the owner of the Dodgers
way back when.
He played the part wonderfully.
The real Branch Rickey.
I don't want to call him a saint,
because he did what every person should have done
Treated every living person with respect
I loved the morals they showed he had in the movie
He was a great man!
And Jackie Robinson?
What bravery.
What a hero to so many, even today.
Super movie!
A must see!
(lots of the "N" word, and racism shown throughout)
PG 13, I agree.
Another great movie.
I did not know what this was about at all, had not even heard of it
before watching.
Tom told me that Gerard Butler was in it,
so
I thought, "Well, might as well watch it"
I'm glad I did.
A good movie to watch with your husband.
Lots of action and blood.
Thumbs up though!
Now, on to Pride and Prejudice!
I had "mom time" with my oldest daughter last night and we watched this movie.
I could watch this movie any time.
Especially this part:
Oh, I love you Most ardently too.
(sorry for the videos of videos, Youtube would not let me post the videos,
this particular scene was not "embedded" whatever that means)
So these are short and sweet.
You are welcome.
Isn't this why we watch this so many times?
to get to the rain scene?
The loving you most ardently scene?
Well, it's why I watch it.
And of course, there is this scene.
Tom tried to copy Mr Darcy and say this, but it
just was NOT the same.
It just made me laugh.
I told him to stop it,
he's going to ruin the movie for me.
I think I need to read the novel now.
I'm a visual person and I think now
that I have the movie memorized,
the book would be quite good.
I love, I love, I love you.
Love that part.
I love, I love, I love you.
Love that part.
Jamie, Lisa Hendey from catholicmom.com is looking for movie reviewers, and I love reading yours, so maybe you could see what it's all about?
ReplyDeleteCouldn't find where she is looking for anyone..will check where I could maybe leave her a comment.
DeleteLoved Olympus Has Fallen! : )
ReplyDeleteYep, it was good. Kind of a newer Die Hard kind of movie!
DeleteI just watched pride and prejudice for the first time a couple months ago, and love it. I couldn't believe I had never seen it before. Those were my favorite parts too, especially at the very end when he seems too in love to say I love you. Loved 42 as well. So sad, but he was such an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check out the other movie you mentioned.
Oh, I know that ending, where he's so in love....love it!
DeleteOhhh, Pride and Prejudice is one of my fave books! We enjoyed 42, and now that you've endorsed Olympus, I'm putting that on the list.
ReplyDeleteI think I want a hard cover P&P, it seems a special book...Yay, hope I've not steered you wrong!
DeleteThe book version of P & P is awesome--one of my all-time fav's. But that movie is terrific as well. I totally agree with you there. And 42 was also fantastic. The scene with Pee Wee Reese putting his arm around Jackie was so incredibly touching. And finally, Olympus Has Fallen was a good flick to watch with my husband--maybe now he owes me one "chick flick." ;)
ReplyDeleteWe must like the same movies!! And YES your hubby owes you a movie!!
DeleteYou had me at Harrison Ford and Gerard Butler. ;-)
ReplyDeletePS My favorite line: No! No. You may only call me "Mrs. Darcy"... when you are completely, and perfectly, and incandescently happy.
But really, they are all good. Yes, the rain scene...swoon.
Yes, Swoon Swoon!! But Harrison Ford is not really swooney in this movie, he is made to look pretty old!!
DeleteBut we have a history -- I'm old like him, ;-)
DeleteOh, whatever!! My son was like, THAT is Hans Solo?
DeleteI'll always love him because he was Indiana Jones!!
(I'm old too, just not as old as you-haha)
Oh! That Jackie Robinson movie sounds so good. I really love how you do movie reviews! It really helps me out. :)
ReplyDeleteIt took me a long time to read P&P. The first time I tried my mom passed and it took me a long time top try again. I really did love it, but had a hard time getting started! Persuasion is still my favorite, though Emma and P&P do make me smile. I am not sure I like Lizzy all that much. You know the bit about liking him now that she saw his house. I think that one line ruined it for me!
Oh, I don't think she liked him because of his house, what line? I think it was because she already liked him, but little by little was finding out he was not as she had thought he was...did the book make it seem like she liked him because of his home?
DeleteI'm visual, which is why I watch movies I guess...I only usually like non fiction books...has to be true. I thought this would be fun because it would be fun to see how the book differs from the movie. Is there a movie for Persuasion...or Emma?
A&E has made movie versions of almost all the books, as well as BBC. Your local library should have at least some of them :)
DeleteCompletely agree with your thoughts on 42. We watched it on a triple date night with some friends. We all LOVED it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't give Olympus Has Fallen a chance, though The Lineman really wanted me to watch it. Perhaps I'll surprise him with a 'in home' movie tonight :-). He's home bound on the recliner for 6 weeks... going a bit mad now.
Oh Mr. Darcy! One of our favorites for sure! Have you read Darcy's Story? The girls from our book club chose to read it last spring, it was wonderful!
Hmmmm...no, sounds interesting...I'll have to look into it. Are they going to make a movie out of it? (haha)
DeleteThere is swearing in the Olympus Has Fallen....
I have heard so many good things about 42 - even at church yesterday! Will have to get that one! Thanks for your movie reviews. I know you have high standards and I appreciate knowing what things in the movies (language, sex, etc.) that I need to be aware of. Thanks and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you Deb...but there is swearing in Olympus Has Fallen!
DeleteWill check out some of these shows! I haven't seen any of them! It is sad how people treat each other. religion, race, looks, poor or rich..people are mean. AND people are nice. Seems like it has always been that way. good vs. evil. ps. you are a very very good friend. thank you thank you thankyou
ReplyDeleteSo sad it was the way it was, and it was not that long ago. I was trying to explain to Clare, it was hard to even explain it, just makes no sense. BUT we are sinful, it is in our nature. Thank God for His grace. And how far we've come. And that we live in these times.
DeleteJamie, I love YOU most ardently. Thank you for making me smile today *and* for the awesome reviews. I'm thinking 42 would be a good family fun movie on Sunday (since we've got Labor Day and all). Is it appropriate for everyone, do you think?
ReplyDeleteAlso, yes, this comment is belated but I have cut way, way back on blog time--both reading and writing. I gave it all to Mary during my consecration and I've had such peace in cleaning out my reader, keeping only the blogs that make me smile and not reading when I don't have the time or right frame of mind.
Sorry. That was tangential but I'm thinking you might understand. ; )
PS. Do you still want to do the gardens? Maybe next week, when it's not a 100 degrees out?
